Floods in Medea: Death toll rises

The number of victims of the floods in M’sila Province, as a result of the weather fluctuations in the past 12 hours, has risen to four, according to the new toll revealed, Thursday, by the services of the Local Directorate of Civil Protection.

The same source explained that the victims are a woman and a girl who were in a car swept by the torrents of Bou Saada river, to be added to the other two people who perished this morning after being swept away by the waters of the Oued el Kheneg in the municipality of Salim and Aqla in the municipality of Ain El Maleh.

The same source detailed that the rescue operation carried out by the civil protection personnel resulted in the removal of a tourist vehicle that had three people on board, from which two bodies (the woman and the girl) were recovered, while the body of the third was still missing, indicating that the high level of Bou Saada river waters makes it difficult to start the search for the third victim.

According to the same source, the car was coming from the municipality of Oueltam when the floods of the Bou Saada Valley overtook the car, dragging it down the valley.

The source stated that 32 people were rescued in different parts of the province, some of them stranded in valleys and trapped in water in homes and roads. For reference, civil protection interventions are still continuing across the province.
