ALGIERS- Algeria’s Pasteur Institute announced, Thursday, April 22nd, 2021, the detection of sixty-five (65) new cases of the British variant of SARS-COV-2 and one hundred and one (101) new cases who tested positive for the variant tied to Nigeria.
“Following the SARS-CoV-2 virus sequencing activities set up by the Pasteur Institute in Algeria (…), sixty-five (65) new cases of the British variant (B. 1.1.7) and one hundred and one (101) new cases of the Nigerian variant (B.1.525) have been recorded “, specified the IPA in a press release.
As for the confirmed cases of the British variant, the concerned provinces are: Algiers with 29 cases, Blida, six cases; Ouargla 02 case; Relizane, 03 cases; Tiaret, 01 case; Tindouf, 07 cases; Tizi-Ouzou, 01 case; Oran, 07 cases; El Bayadh 02 case.
As long as the Nigerian variant is concerned, the figures are as follows: Algiers, 39 cases; Béjaia, 04 cases; Bouira, 04 cases; Laghouat, 14 cases; Medea, 16 cases; Relizane 03 cases; Tindouf01 case; Oran 19 cases; Ain Salah 03 case.
Finally, the Institute recalled that compliance with social distancing measures and wearing a protective mask as part of the health protocol are the best guarantees to ward off the spread of the Covid-19 virus and its variants.
