Chad state owned television announced, Tuesday, that the country’s newly re-elected president Idriss Déby Itno, died of wounds sustained during clashes with rebels over the weekend.
Idriss Déby died hours after announcing his sixth victory, as Déby (68 years) won 79.3 percent of the votes in the April 11 elections after being boycotted by senior opposition leaders in protest against his efforts to extend his 30-year rule.
After the news of Deby’s death, a formation of a transitional national council headed by his son was announced.
