ALGIERS- The preparations for the month of Ramadan were raised during the last Council of Ministers, chaired by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. In this context, it was decided to authorize, on an exceptional basis, the importation of meat.
Invited by Channel 2 of the Algerian National Radio to give more details on the progress of this operation, the President of the National Federation of Red Meat Importers, affirmed that “until ‘that time’ we have not yet received the green light from the two ministries concerned, namely agriculture and trade ”.
“We have not yet been communicated concerning the procedures to be followed for the resumption of imports,” said Mr. Sofiane Bahbou.
More explicitly, he specified that there are two authorizations that the two supervisory authorities must issue for each operator. “This is the sanitary exemption for the import of red meats and concerns the Minister of Agriculture and the Certificate of Compliance from the Ministry of Commerce, which has been blocked for almost four months,” he added.
As a reminder, red meat imports have been frozen by the public authorities since the 4th quarter of 2020. A decision which falls within the framework of the rationalization of imports as well as the encouragement of local products.
