ALGIERS- Tipaza tribunal decided, today, Sunday, March 21, 2021, to postpone and for the 5th time the trial of the businessman Kamel Chikhi known as “El boucher” or” the butcher”, accused in a corruption case, to April 04 at the request of the defense.
It should be recalled that, Kamel Chikhi, who had been the subject of a committal warrant issued against him by the investigating judge at the Tipaza tribunal on October 15, is being prosecuted in this case, with three other defendants (a notary and two employees) for “granting undue advantages”, “reduction of taxes without authorization”, “abuse of power” and “obtaining interests illegally”.
After their presentation, on October 15, before the Tipaza prosecutor’s office, the case file was transferred to the investigating judge, who ordered the provisional detention of Kamel Chikhi and the placing of the other defendants under judicial supervision.
As a reminder, this case dates back to 2016, when the accused Kamel Chikhi signed, at an approved notary in the city of Tipaza, a contract for the transfer of land property (belonging to him), located in Ain Benian (west Algiers) , to a limited liability company (property development), of which he was a partner and manager.
He benefited under this contract from a tax reduction, paying only a rate of 1% of the taxes due set at 5%. An act considered in violation of the legislation in force, having required the opening of a judicial investigation in 2018 and the initiation of proceedings against him, in application of the law on corruption. The investigations carried out in this affair revealed that the Public Treasury suffered an estimated loss of 15 million DA.
