ALGIERS- Acting Secretary-General of the National Organization of the Mujahideen (war veterans), Mohand Ouamar Benelhadj, expressed thanks to the Minister of Communication, the official spokesperson for the government, welcoming his stance with respect to the French channel, “France 24”, while considereing that position a remarkable development in dealing with what he dubbed as “the French official propaganda”.

The first man in the largest revolutionary organization in Algeria estimated that “the French government is not ready to change its policy towards Algeria, regardless of the different names that have succeeded it, based on the positions that Paris has shown for decades”.

“We know France well. They called us non-naturalized Muslim inhabitants, and later on, they called us French Muslims. They treated us like animals and they will keep doing the same treatment, they do not change the way they deal with the Algerians”, he explained.

“I say it for the first time. The government spokesman, for the first time, is grateful for what he said about France 24. It is the official propaganda channel. It is a French official channel that was a radio station before it became a television channel, and it used the same position when the matter is related to Algeria. The French do not like us and they will never do”.

“During recent weeks, with the explosion of the issue of memory and history, the marketing discourse used by the French government and its agencies aims to exploit the divergence in political positions among Algerians, and the internal problems that the country is going through, to separate us”.

He called psychologists and sociologists to “organize a forum to guide Algerians in dealing with the memory file, which is considered one of the most sensitive files”.

“Is it really possible to achieve reconciliation between the French and Algerian memories? This cannot be achieved, because the issue is related to the victim and the executioner, the murdered and the murderer. It is not possible. I think that continuing with this approach is a waste of time”.

The Acting Secretary-General of the Mujahideen Organization warned that there is a difference in attitudes among Algerians, and this is normal.

“Among Algerians, there are those who are bourgeois and have new accounts in their heads. When we were under the yoke of French colonialism, that difficult circumstance allowed us to achieve the union that ultimately led us to expel colonialism. But after independence, we noticed that there is a lack of harmony among Algerians concerning dealing with some French positions, and this is not desirable for them”.

“After the disclosure of the Benjamin Stora report, we entered into a trap set by the French. They have created a new fashion for us, which is to distinguish between martyrs after they have transformed them into commodities”.

“What France has done concerning martyr Ali Boumendjel is to distinguish between the martyrs. As for us, all martyrs are equal, whether a lawyer, a farmer or … We must not be led by their play. Here, I stress and say: The idea of writing a common history between Algeria and France cannot be realized”.

“I am ready to discuss memory on television about the French colonialism and its crimes committed in Algeria, although I do not have enough intellectual capacities. The French regime should be criticized, but some parties do not dare to criticize this regime”.
