ALGIERS- Detachments of the National People’s Army (ANP) carried out, during the period from March 03-09, multiple operations with “qualitative” results, in the dynamic of continuous efforts in the fight against terrorism and multifaceted organized crime, a statement from the Department of National Defense (DND) said on Wednesday.
In the dynamics of efforts to establish security and serenity throughout the national territory, units and detachments of the People’s People Army carried out, during the period from March 3 to 9, 2021, multiple operations with “qualitative” results, illustrating the high professionalism and unwavering commitment of our Armed Forces to preserve and protect our country against all forms of security threats and related scourges:
As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the People’s National Army arrested (02) elements supporting terrorist groups in Jijel and Bejaïa, while (02) caches for terrorists and (03) homemade bombs were discovered and destroyed in Tizi Ouzou, M’sila and Skikda.
As part of the fight against organized crime and as a continuation of the intense efforts to end the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the ANP intercepted, in coordination with the various security services in various operations executed through the various Military Regions, (34) drug traffickers and seized large quantities of treated Hashish, amounting to (15) quintals and (87) kilograms, which criminal gangs attempted to smuggle across our borders with Morocco.
As such, detachments of the ANP and the services of the National Gendarmerie and the Border Guard arrested, during separate operations in the territories of the 2nd and 3rd Military Regions, (23) drug traffickers and seized (15) quintals and (44) kilograms of treated Hashish, while (11) drug traffickers were apprehended and (43) kilograms of the same substance, as well as (17,714) psychotropic tablets were seized in various operations carried out in other Military Regions.
In addition, detachments of the ANP intercepted, in Tamanrasset, In Guezzam, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Djanet, (334) individuals and seized (12) vehicles, (370) generators, (176) jackhammers, detonation and other equipment used in illicit gold mining operations, as well as (260) bags of mixed raw gold and stones, while (09) other individuals were arrested, and (03) hunting rifles, (02) automatic pistols, (45900) units of tobacco and (7200) units of pyrotechnic articles were seized during separate operations carried out in Ouargla, El-Oued, Biskra, Sétif, Mila and Adrar.
Likewise, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to (18,050) liters were foiled in Tébessa, El-Tarf, Souk Ahras, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Djanet.
In another context, the Coast Guard thwarted attempts to illegally immigrate (39) individuals, aboard homemade craft in Annaba and El-Tarf, while (123) illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested in Djanet, Tlemcen, Tamanrasset, Tébessa, Nâama and Rélizane.
