The national airline Air Algérie announced, on Tuesday, the suspension of its repatriation flights for Chinese nationals from Algiers for a period of 15 days following the detection of two positive cases for Covid-19.
“Air Algerie’s charter flights between Algiers and the Chinese airport Chengdu will be suspended for two weeks from March 8,” said press release issued by the state-owned company.
“Air Algerie charter flights between Algiers and the Chinese airport Chengdu will be suspended for two weeks from March 8. This measure was announced, on Monday, March 2nd, by the Chinese authorities following the detection of six positive cases with Covid-19 on an Air Algérie flight from Algiers”, specified the same source .
Earlier, Health Minister Abderrahmane Benbouzid announced that Algeria will receive, in the current month, hundreds of thousands of doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
A donation of Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccines arrived in Algeria on Feb. 24 with a view to providing assistance to Algeria to ward off the spread of the virus.
China and Algeria have offered mutual help in the fight against the pandemic. In February 2020, Algeria sent medical donations to help China combat the coronavirus. In return, China has sent several batches of medical aid to Algeria.
In addition, a Chinese team of medical experts arrived in Algeria on May 14, 2020 for a 15-day mission to help fight the coronavirus, by sharing China’s experience in curbing the spread of the contagious disease.
