Tunisia reports 1st death from new COVID-19 variant

The Director General of the Pasteur Institute of Algeria said, Sunday, Feb 28th, 2021 in Algiers, that five people suspected of being affected by the Coronavirus variant are under observation, pending the results of their analyzes which will be known today.

Speaking on Echourouk TV, Fawzi Derrar explained that the identification of a patient positive for Covid-19 variant requires at least three days.

In this aspect, the director of the institute, also, called for “strengthening prevention and protection measures to ward off the spread of the pandemic, deploring a relaxation of vigilance in recent days through the non-compliance with barrier measures.”

As a reminder, on Wednesday, Dr Fawzi Derrar revealed the first two cases of the UK-based variant observed on two citizens, including an Algerian national who returned home from France and a hospital employee.

To this end, one of them is fully cured, while the other’ state of health is closely monitored, added Dr. Fawzi Derrar.
