Upper House of Parliament: Date for Speaker’s election to be fixed today

Upper House of Parliament: Plenary session, today, to elect Speaker

The office of the Council of the Nation will meet, today, Sunday, Feb 21st, 2021, with the presence of the heads of the three parliamentary groups, namely the FLN, the RND and the presidential third, to finally set the date for the election of the Upper House of Parliament’ Speaker and put an end to acting management.

As a reminder, Salah Goudjil, member of the presidential third party, was appointed as Acting Speaker following the designation of Abdelkader Bensalah as Head of State, following the resignation of ex-President Bouteflika in April 2019.

Following the holding of the presidential election, Mr. Bensalah did not resume his post as Speaker of the Upper Chamber as stipulated in the constitution. As such, he asked President Tebboune to relieve him of the post for health reasons.
