Vaccination drive: Algeria eyes to achieve herd immunity

Doctor Mohamed Bekkat Berkani, member of the scientific committee monitoring the evolution of the Coronavirus pandemic in Algeria, reviewed the epidemic situation in our country and the production of Russian vaccine against Covid-19, Sputnik V.

Speaking to the local radio in Setif, this Thursday, February 18, Doctor Berkani said that the goal is to achieve herd immunity by vaccinating 60-70% of the population and then returning to normal life.

Concerning the production of Sputnik V anti-Covid-19 vaccine, the same official stated that the vaccine will be manufactured in a factory in Constantine.

As such, the official explained that the president of the National Agency for Health Security, Professor Kamel Sanhadji, recently, visited Constantine to choose the site to house the plant with a view to manufacturing the vaccine in a few months.

Bekkat stressed that Algeria has the capacities and skills necessary to manufacture this vaccine which will allow 60 to 70% of the population to be vaccinated for collective immunity.
