The relaunch of the activities of the Bouchegouf nutritional yeast production plant, which has been closed since 2002, “will ensure the coverage of 30% of the needs of the national market”, indicated, Monday, the Minister of Industry, Farhat Aït Ali Braham.
The production capacity of this unit before its closure was nearly 56,000 tonnes per year, representing a third of the national needs estimated at 150,000 tonnes per year, the minister said in a lively press conference on the sidelines of his working visit to this province.
The minister underlined that Algeria ensured its self-sufficiency in yeast thanks to the industrial fabric composed of the factories of Bouchegouf and Oued Smar (Algiers) while currently, the country completely resorts to imports to cover its needs for an annual bill of $ 100 million.
During his inspection to the Cycle and Motorcycles Company (Cycma) which employs 80 workers against 1,600 in the past and has been facing financial difficulties for two decades, the minister said “that a plan will soon be studied to get this public economic entity out of its current state “.
