The Prime Minister, Abdelaziz Djerad, received, Sunday in Algiers, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain in Algeria, Fernando Moran Calvo-Sotelo, indicated a press release from the Prime Minister’s services.
The meeting, which took place at the Government Palace, “was an opportunity to exchange views on ways and means of further strengthening bilateral cooperation on regional and international issues of common interest, in particular on the occasion of the 8th session of the Algerian-Spanish High Level Meeting “, the statement concluded.
Earlier on January 26th, Environment Minister Nassira Benharrats received the Spanish Ambassador to Algeria, Fernando Moran Calvo-Sotelo, at the ministry’s headquarters.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways and means to concretize the memorandum of understanding on environmental protection, signed by the Prime Minister Mr. Abdelaziz Djerad and President Pedro Sánchez last October.
As such, the two parties agreed to appoint a coordinator from both sides in order to expedite the implementation of the provisions of this agreement.
For her part, the Minister affirmed her ministerial department’s willingness to further work on setting priorities that focus, mainly, on the fight against climate change.
In addition to combating desertification, preserving natural ecosystems, as well as protecting the Mediterranean Sea were at the heart of the discussions.
At the end of the audience, both parties discussed the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on the environment and how to cope with it in order to reduce its repercussions.
