Tunisia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad expressed its “deep astonishment” at “the recurrence of offensive statements against sisterly Algeria”, affirming its categorical rejection “of desperate attempts to undermine to the bonds of brotherhood and the strategic relations between Tunisia and Algeria ”.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Foreign Affairs Department said that “such irresponsible behavior (without citing their source) is, in no way binding, on the Tunisian state”.

“These declarations will in no way harm the privileged Tunisian-Algerian relations which have continued to evolve, thanks to the sincere determination of the leaders of the two countries to strengthen coordination and bilateral consultations in the interest of both brother peoples ”, read the text of the declaration.

For his part, the president of the Tunisian movement Ennahdha, Rached Ghannouchi had said, earlier, that “he will not tolerate any damage to the strategic relationship between the two brother countries, Tunisia and Algeria”.

“Our relationship with Algeria is at the forefront of international and regional relations, being a strategic one , and we are grateful to our Algerian brothers, State and people, for having been alongside the Tunisians in difficult times, “he said.

The former President of the Republic, Mohamed Moncef Marzouki (2011-2014) declared, on January 29, on the channel “Al Khalij”, that the Algerian authorities were hostile to the Tunisian revolution during the first years, adding that the Tunisian Revolution suffered from the Algerian regime.

Marzouki accused Algeria of meddling in Tunisian affairs with the aim of aborting the Tunisian revolution and for fear that it would be exported.
