Representative of the Polisario Front in France Mohamed Sidati said, Sunday, he is expecting from the new American administration to reverse the decision of former president Donald Trump, recognizing the alleged sovereignty of Morocco over Western Sahara, calling on Washington to collaborate with the UN Security Council with a view to remedying the situation.
“Trump’s legacy is heavy but we will not lose hope seeing that Biden’s new administration expressed its willingness to review and reconsider all what was done by his predecessor,” said Sidati at the channel France 24.
“In this respect, we hope that the administration could address this injustice committed agaist Western Sahara and notably using its position as a member of the Security Council alongside other members of the body to remedy the situation,” he added.
While broaching the situation on the ground since the resumption of the armed clashes, the Sahrawi diplomat affirmed that “the Sahrawi combatants for freedom bombed Saturday the area of El Guerguerat, because it is from this point that the Moroccan troops tried to extend their illegal occupation, and it is from this zone that they illegally transport goods (…), it is obvious today for the Sahrawi combatants to conduct attacks in El Guerguerat.”
“This shows that there isn’t, in Western Sahara, any point that cannot be reached by the Sahrawi combatants,” he underlined. In this respect, The Polisario Front’s representative pointed out “that Morocco will not be able to continue concealing the reality of a cruel war taking place in Western Sahara where the Sahrawi people are struggling to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination.”
“The international legality must be restored and the international law must be implemented in Western Sahara to complete the decolonization process,” he said. (SPS)
