ALGIERS – The Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, Chems Eddine Chitour, received, Thursday in Algiers, the Resident Coordinator Ambassador of the United Nations System in Algeria, Eric Overvest, with whom he reviewed the state of cooperation in the fields of energy transition and sustainable development, said a press release from the ministry.
During this meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the ministry, the two parties reviewed the state of cooperation relations in the fields of energy transition and sustainable development, in particular the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in accordance with the UN’s 2030 agenda with the programs, funds and specialized agencies of the United Nations, the same source added.
The Minister of Energy Transition presented the activities of his department, indicating that Algeria is “fully committed” to the achievement of its objectives through the establishment of a “voluntary policy of progressive energy transition” focused on the development of renewable energies, the promotion of energy efficiency, the change of the energy model and research and development, the statement pointed out.
Mr Chitour also mentioned the various opportunities for bilateral cooperation with the United Nations in the field of renewable energies and the means of their consolidation, such as solar energy, geothermal energy, hydrogen, electric locomotion , capacity building, and development of local industries for national needs, and better consumption.
The two parties also agreed to explore ways and means for strengthening relations in the field of specialized training.
