BATNA-The official and national festivities for the celebration of the Amazigh New Year “Yennayer 2971” kicked off Friday in Menaa (Batna) in the presence of several officials.
On this occasion, the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Family Work, Mohamed Hamidou underlined, in his speech, that “the celebration of Yennayer across the country, and its singularity from one region to another, constitutes a tradition and a consolidation of the Algerian identity “, ensuring that” the celebration of Yennayer is a great celebration which brings together, in conviviality and joy, families “.
“The objective of these celebrations is to highlight the cultural and civilizational heritage of the nation and its glorious history”, he added, in the presence in particular of the Secretary General of the High Commission for Amazigh (HCA), Si El Hachemi Assad, the general commander of the Algerian Muslim Scouts (SMA), Abderrahmane Hamzaoui, and the wali of Batna, Toufik Mezhoud.
Mr. Hamidou, also, underlined that “the constitution of Tamazight, with its characteristics and its components, and its promotion in its diversity across the national territory, as an element contributing to enrich the cultural and civilizational diversity of the nation, will put end to the controversy over identity “.
For his part, the secretary general of the HCA, Si El Hachemi Assad noted that the celebration of Yennayer “nourishes the feeling of pride of our Amazigh civilizational referents, rooted in history and consolidates the cohesion between Algerians, in the service of country”.
And to add: “Let us make this celebration which transcends time, the catalyst which makes it possible to build the national personality proud of its identity components in a climate of peace, reconciliation, openness and rejection of division”.
The festivities to celebrate the Amazigh New Year 2971, which attracted a large audience, inhabitants of the Menaâ region and guests from other wilayas, were marked by the organization of various exhibitions reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region, at Menaâ municipal stadium on the chaouis rhythms of the “Rahaba” and the songs of Ahellil, of a troupe from Timimoun.
Mr. Hamidou, Assad, Hamzaoui, Mezhoud and their guests gathered in the village of Nara in the commune of Menaâ in memory of the symbol Shahid, Mustapha Benboulaïd.
