Covid-19: Algeria unveils vaccine to acquire

Algeria has finally disclosed the first vaccine it will acquire to begin the vaccination campaign of its population as of January 2021.

In this vein, the Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson, Ammar Belhimer, announced, at the end of the government meeting, held this Wednesday, Dec 30th, 2020, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Abdeleziz Djerad, that “Algeria is eying the Russian anti- Covid-19 vaccine “sputnik v”.

Indeed, Mr. Belhimer pointed out that “during this meeting, the Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Abderrahmane Benbouzid, announced the signing of a direct mutual agreement with a Russian leboratory for the acquisition of vaccine against covid-19, concretization the decision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to launch the vaccination operation as of January ”.

The same official underlined that “the Pasteur Institute of Algeria had started a series of discussions with the Russian company producing the vaccine” sputnik v “, while talks with other foreign parties are still underway ” .
