ALGIERS- Two (02) elements supporting terrorist groups were arrested, in Khenchela, by a detachment of the National People’s Army (ANP), during the period from December 16 to 22, 2020, indicated, Wednesday, a report published by the Ministry of National Defense.
“As part of the fight against terrorism, a detachment of the National People’s Army arrested (02) elements supporting terrorist groups in Khenchela, while another detachment of the ANP discovered and destroyed one (01) home-bomb in Rélizane “, specified the same report.
According to the same source, “large quantities of treated Hashish amounting to (24) quintals and (58.632) kilograms, having been introduced through the borders with Morocco” were seized, in separate operations, during this period.
In addition, (37) drug traffickers were arrested by combined detachments of the ANP, in coordination with the various security services, during these operations carried out “as part of the fight against organized crime and in continuity with the intense efforts aimed to thwart the phenomenon of drug trafficking in our country “.
Detailing these operations carried out “in the dynamic of continuous efforts in the fight against terrorism and against multiform organized crime”, the report reported the seizure, in the area of Oum Laachar in Tindouf, of “a large quantity of treated Hashish amounting to (10) quintals and (03) kilograms “by a combined detachment of the ANP.
In Nâama, “the border guards apprehended, (05) drug traffickers of Moroccan nationality and seized (06) quintals and (87,670) kilograms of the same substance in two operations”, while “two (02) drug traffickers were arrested in Bechar and (03) quintals and (40.5) kilograms of treated Hahsish and (320) grams of cocaine were seized “.
In the same context, thirty (30) drug traffickers were intercepted by combined detachments of the ANP, the services of the National Gendarmerie and the Border Guards who also seized (04) quintals and (27,462) kilograms of treated Hahsish, (790) grams of cocaine and (18024) psychotropic tablets, during separate operations carried out in Adrar, Oran, Tlemcen, Aïn Defla, Ouargla, Ghardaïa, Tébessa, Batna, Sétif, Annaba and Sidi Bel Abbès.
On the other hand, (197) individuals were arrested in Tamanrasset, In Guezzam, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Illizi and Tindouf by ANP detachments that also seized (35) vehicles, (333) generators, (148) jackhammers, (376) bags of mixed stones and raw gold, detonation tools and other equipment used in illegal gold mining operations as well as (3.84) tonnes of foodstuffs intended for smuggling.
Nine (09) other individuals were arrested, and (08) hunting rifles and one (01) automatic pistol were seized during separate operations carried out in Khenchela, Sétif, M’sila, Batna and Oum El Bouaghi, specified the report, stressing that “attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to (23,411) liters have been foiled in Tamanrasset, Adrar, Tébessa, Souk Ahras and El-Tarf”.
In addition, illegal emigration attempts were foiled by the Coast Guard and the national Gendarmerie services, which rescued (185) individuals, including (17) emigrants of Moroccan nationality, on board craft boats in In Témouchent, Tlemcen, Mostaganem, Algiers, Boumerdès, Annaba and El-Tarf, while (81) illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested in Tlemcen, Tindouf, Rélizane, Ouargla, Ghardaïa, Tamanrasset, Saïda and Djanet.
The Ministry of National Defense (MDN) considered, in this regard, that these “multiple operations having led to qualitative results”, “reflect the high professionalism, vigilance and permanent availability of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory. ”
