ALGIERS – The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chakib Rachid Kaid, took part on Friday in the 5th edition of the Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), during which he highlighted “the attachment” of Algeria to the Barcelona Process, said a statement from the Foreign Ministry.
During this forum, held by videoconference, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reviewed Algeria’s priorities within the framework of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, reiterating its “commitment to work together with its partners, on the basis of the principle of ‘variable geometry’ for the achievement of the main objectives of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership and in favor of a prosperous regional unit “.
Algeria’s vision regarding the challenges facing the Mediterranean region, particularly in security, economic and social terms, was also highlighted by Mr. Kaid.
This meeting took place the day after the meeting which brought together the foreign ministers of the European Union and their counterparts from the Southern neighborhood devoted to the presentation by the EU of a new Southern Neighborhood policy, to which the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also taken part, noted the same source.
The 5th edition of the UfM Regional Forum, which this year coincided with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Barcelona Process, was held under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, in respect of the Northern countries, and Mr. Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Kingdom of Jordan, in respect of southern countries.
