ALGIERS – The Moudjahid and former Speaker of the National People’s Assembly (APN), Said Bouhadja, who died at dawn on Wednesday at the age of 82, was buried on Wednesday in the El-Alia cemetery in Algiers.
The funeral took place in the presence of the Interim Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Salah Goudjil, the Speaker of the National People’s Assembly (APN), Slimane Chenine, the Prime Minister, Abdelaziz Djerad and the Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, Abdelhafidh Allahoum.
Born on April 22, 1938 in Ouled Attia (W. Skikda), the deceased joined the ranks of the National Liberation Army in North Constantine (historic wilaya II), the day after the outbreak of the Glorious national Liberation War . He is appointed secretary of the committee of the said historic wilaya, in addition to assuming the mission of liaison and coordination between the command of the historic wilaya II and the heads of the regions and zones. He participated in the armed struggle until independence.
After independence, Saïd Bouhadja continued his activism within the National Liberation Front (FLN) party. He has held several senior positions, including that of Speaker of the National People’s Assembly (APN) from 2017 to 2018.
The deceased was also a founding member of the Arab Youth Union in Cairo in 1974, and the National Union of Algerian Youth (UNJA).
Mr. Goudjil greeted, in a message of condolence addressed to the family of the deceased, “the human qualities of the deceased, this sincere nationalist and jealous of his homeland”, qualities which characterized him throughout his life.
For his part, Mr. Chenine said that Algeria is losing today in the person of Said Bouhadja “a valiant mujahid and a seasoned politician”.
