ALGIERS – Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum met in Abuja with the President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, said, Thursday, a ministry press release.
“On the sidelines of the official visit to Abuja which he began on November 25, 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sabri Boukadoum, had a meeting with the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, “said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This is the first official visit of an Algerian minister to the West African organization… the two sides have had a very fruitful exchange of views on the main issues of the region, according to the same source.
During the discussions, in which several senior executives of ECOWAS took part, added the communique, “Messrs. Boukadoum and Kassi BROU, had a constructive and open discussion on the ways and means of promoting cooperation between Algeria and ‘West African organization in the political and security fields, particularly in the Sahel region.
“The two parties noted, with great satisfaction, the convergence of their views on the main issues concerning the region and agreed on the need to pool their efforts through the establishment of a consultation mechanism between Algeria and ECOWAS aimed, in particula,r at developing political, security, economic and trade relations, “the statement concluded.
