ALGIERS – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sabri Boukadoum, had a telephone interview with the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UFM), Nasser Kamel, with whom he discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation, said, on Saturday, a ministry press release.
“The meeting was an opportunity for the two officials to discuss bilateral cooperation between Algeria and this regional organization, as well as the prospects for its strengthening,” said the Foreign Ministry.
During this meeting, the Minister and the Secretary General of the UFM discussed the state of preparations for the 5th UPM Regional Forum, scheduled for November 27, 2020. This event, it should be emphasized, coincides this year with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona process, underlined the press release.
In this context, Mr. Nasser Kamel expressed his “satisfaction regarding the active and qualitative participation of Algeria in the latest activities of the UPM organized as part of regional efforts to effectively face the socio-economic impacts of the induced crisis by the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic “.
For his part, Mr. Sabri Boukadoum “welcomed the efforts of the UfM in the context of the current health crisis and outlined the efforts made by Algeria in this area”.
The head of Algerian diplomacy also “renewed Algeria’s commitment to work in concert with the UfM secretariat in order to consolidate and diversify their cooperation”.
Finally, a working visit to Algeria by the secretary general of the UFM is scheduled as soon as sanitary conditions allow, the statement concluded.
