Algeria – The Court of Sidi Mhmed delivered, this Wednesday, September 16, its verdict in the trial of the former Minister of Solidarity, Djamel Ould Abbes and Said Barkat.
In this vein, Djamel Ould Abbès was sentenced to 8 years in prison with a fine of 1 million DA. Said Barkat was sentenced to 4 years in prison with a fine of 1 million DA.
In the same trial, other verdicts were delivered. The Secretary General of the Ministry of National Solidarity, Bouchenak Khaldi was sentenced to 3 years in prison with a fine of 1 million DA.
For his part, 2 years in prison with a fine of 500,000 DA were pronounced against the former Director of Protocol in the Ministry of National Solidarity, Djelouli Saadi. The research and synthesis officer (CES) Hamza Chérif was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a fine of 500,000 DA.
Ben Hbilesse Ismail was sentenced to 1 year in prison with a fine of 500,000 DA.
Finally, El Wafi Ould Abbes was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison and an international arrest warrant has been issued for him.
Earlier, the public prosecutor at the court of Sidi M’hamed (Court of Algiers), on Sunday, requested sentences of 8 to 12 years in prison against the two former ministers Ould Abbes and Barkat, and others accused, with seizure of all their income and illegal funds.
The representative of the public prosecutor’s office requested twelve (12) years in prison and a fine of one million (1) DA against Djamel Ould Abbes, and (10) years in prison and the same fine for Said Barkat, with seized of all the illegal income and funds of the accused.
The two former ministers Djamel Ould Abbes and Saïd Barkat are being prosecuted for squandering public funds and concluding contracts in violation of the legislation in force.
The prosecution, also, requested a ten (10) year prison sentence and a fine of one (1) million Da against the president of the National Student Organization, Hamza Chérif, who also was in charge of studies and syntheses at the Ministry of Solidarity, prosecuted in the same case for squandering public funds.
Eight (8) years in prison and a fine of one million Da, were also requested against the former Secretary General of the Ministry of National Solidarity, Khelladi Bouchenak.
