Collapse of mining tunnel in Ain Azel: President Tebboune instructs PM to go to scene


ALGIERS- The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune instructed the Minister of Mines, Mohamed Arkab to go to Ain Azal (W. Sétif) to closely follow the evolution of the situation following the collapse of a tunnel for prospecting non-ferrous mining products and useful substances, and offer condolences to the families of the victims of this tragic accident, said a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.

The partial collapse of a prospecting tunnel of the National Company for the Exploration of Non-Ferrous Mining Products and Useful Substances at Chaâba El Hamra, in the region of Kharza Youcef, east of Ain Azal (50 km au south of Sétif) had been preceded by an explosion which left two dead and one injured among the employees, indicated the civil protection services.

Research is currently continuing in the rubble under the supervision of the local director of civil protection in the presence of the wali of the wilaya, to ensure the absence of other workers buried inside this mining tunnel, according to the officials.
