ALGIERS – Finance Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane received United Kingdom Ambassador to Algeria Barry Robert Lowen with whom he discussed ways and means of developing financial cooperation between the two countries, a statement of the ministry said on Thursday .
During this meeting held Wednesday at the headquarters of the ministry, “the two parties reviewed the state of bilateral economic and financial relations, as well as the prospects for their development and strengthening, particularly in the banking and financial sectors and this, in a spirit of mutual interest, “said the same source.
The Minister of Finance occasionally referred to Algeria’s economic and financial situation, in particular the policies and reforms envisaged within the framework of the President of the Republic’s program and the government’s plan, aimed at meeting the challenges and ensuring the continuity of the country’s economic and social development.
Regarding the forthcoming exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Brexit), the Minister of Finance expressed his wish to see a “more assertive” involvement of British companies in the Algerian market, particularly in favor of the facilitations which will be implemented.
For his part, the British ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to provide support and technical assistance to face the Covid-19 pandemic, the statement concluded.
