Fight against smuggling: 10 quintals of treated Hashish seized


ALGIERS – A quantity of treated Hashish amounting to nearly ten (10) quintals was seized during separate operations carried out, on Tuesday, by a detachment of the People’s National Army (ANP) and the National Gendarmerie with Customs in the province of Naâma, said, Wednesday, the Ministry of National Defense in a statement.

“As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime and in the dynamics of the sustained efforts aimed at stemming the propagation of the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, a combined detachment of the ANP, in coordination with the customs services, arrested, on July 7, 2020, near Ain Safra, peovince of Naama, in the 2nd Military Region, three (3) drug traffickers and seized a large quantity of treated Hahsish amounting to 8 quintals and 91.4 kilograms, as well as a truck and a tourist vehicle “, specified the same source.

In the same locality, elements of the National Gendarmerie, in coordination with the customs services, “apprehended two (2) drug traffickers aboard a tourist vehicle loaded with 85.05 kilograms of treated hashish, “added the press release.

In addition, ANP detachments intercepted, in Tamanrasset in the 6th Military Region, “81 individuals and seized 16 generator sets and 2 jackhammers used in illicit gold panning operations”, while the Coast Guard foiled illegal emigration attempts of “41 people aboard home-made boats, in Oran, Mostaganem and Aïn Témouchent in the 2nd Military Region”, concluded the communiqué.
