ALGIERS- Various virtual cultural events marking important stations in the history of Algeria will mark the celebrations of the double anniversary of Independence and Youth, officially celebrated every July 5 throughout the country.
Due to the restrictions on assemblies still in force, imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, the 58th anniversary of Independence will be celebrated by the Ministry of Culture and Arts, through a program of virtual cultural activities assigned to regional offices and cultural establishments under supervision.
Poetry competitions (written and oral) and patriotic songs, screenings of films related to the Revolution, theater shows, poetic readings and photo exhibitions will mark the commemoration of this milestone in the history of Algeria.
The Mahieddine-Bachtarzi National Theater (Tna) offers a virtual program of cultural activities combining theater performances, photo exhibition, children’s drawing competition, in addition to a selection of stories told by the storyteller Seddik Mahi.
For its part, the Algerian Agency for Cultural Outreach (Aarc) plans to award prizes for its popular poetry competition.
In El Tarf, the Culture Department offers a program of festivities from July 4 to 6, including film screenings, poetic readings, drawing contests, in addition to an online meeting on Independence Day.
In addition, the direction of Culture of the wilaya of M’sila, joins the festivities with a program of activities including an oral poetry competition, a music concert, screenings of historical films, in addition to other services highlighting the patriotic feeling in different artistic forms.
The direction of culture of Mostaganem is preparing to mark this date with a competition of songs and patriotic poetry.
For its part, the Skikda Regional Theater is planning a program of virtual cultural activities, including theater performances, poetry readings and a videoconference on the role of theater in the preservation of national memory.
The Culture Department of Béjaia plans to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the recovery of national sovereignty through an online program dedicated mainly to cinema, in addition to the awards ceremony of the music and song competition, dedicated to the memory of singer Abdelkader Bouhi, one of the symbols of the popular Kabyle song.
In Tizi Ouzou, the Culture Department has concocted a program to mark this event through theater shows, film screenings and exhibitions related to the theme of the struggle of the Algerian people for their independence.
