Coronavirus in Algeria: Noticeable soar in number of confirmed cases, deaths during last 24 hours

Three hundred and five (305) new confirmed cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19), 169 recoveries and 5 deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours in Algeria, said, Sunday in Algiers, the spokesman of the Scientific Committee for the follow-up of the evolution of the Coronavirus pandemic, Dr Djamel Fourar.

The total number of confirmed cases, thus, amounts to 13,273 i.e 30 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and that of deaths to 897 while the number of recoveries has risen to 9,371, said Dr Fourar, during the daily press briefing devoted to the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this regard, he noted that people aged 60 and over account for 75% of total deaths.

In addition, 21 provinces did not report any new positive coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours. According to the same source, 13 provinces recorded between 1 and 5 cases, while 14 provinces reported more than six cases each.

In addition, 49 patients are currently in intensive care, said Dr. Fourar.

Finally, he affirmed that the current epidemiological situation requires every citizen to be vigilant and observe the rules of hygiene and physical distance, recalling the obligation to respect the imposed lockdown and the wearing of masks.

He, also, called for looking after the health of the elderly, especially those suffering from chronic diseases.
