Former PM Belaïd Abdeslam passes away


Former Prime Minister Belaïd Abdeslam died, today, at the military hospital in Ain Nâadja at the age of 92, Ennaher tV reported.

Activist of the PPA, then of the MTLD, Belaïd Abdeslam joined the FLN after the outbreak of the Revolution. After independence, he became CEO of the state oil company, Sonatrach, then Minister of Energy and Industry and Minister of Light Industries during the era of Houari Boumediene’s Presidency.

During the crisis of the 1990s, commonly known as the dark decade, he was appointed by the president of the HCE, Ali Kafi, as prime minister for a few months.
