Independent Authority for Elections may contribute to “harmonious” Constitution


ALGIERS- The head of the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE), Mohamed Charfi, said, Wednesday in Algiers, that his body’s contributions to the constitutional amendment will result in practical proposals leading to a “harmonious” Constitution.

Algeria “takes a decisive step on the road to building the democratic constitutional edifice, by the birth of a draft Constitution which has been submitted to us for enrichment and which is currently the subject of debate by academics, members of the ANIE and renowned constitutional law teachers, “said Mr. Charfi at the opening of the Study Days devoted to the debate on the preliminary draft of the constitutional amendment.

ANIE contributions “to the preliminary draft of the constitutional amendment, from the preamble to its 7 chapters, will give rise to practical proposals which will bring a plus to the elaboration of a harmonious constitution in substance and in the form, commensurate with the approach and objectives set by the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune in his program and in accordance with the Government’s action plan, so as to preserve the achievements of the Hirak of February 22, 2019 and the authenticity voices of Algerians expressed by the results of the Presidential election of December 12, 2019, “he added.

The preliminary draft revision of the Constitution has reserved for ANIE “a series of articles which consecrate its birth as a cornerstone of the democratic electoral edifice, capable of preserving the authority, the credibility and the transparency of the State, as well as its security and democracy “, continued Mr. Charfi calling on the participants in this meeting to” take this aspect into account during scientific meetings, by giving it a particular interest and an exhaustive scientific approach ” .
