ALGIERS- A new theme TV channel, “El Maarifa” (knowledge), will be launched Tuesday, marking the 64th anniversary of the National Student Day (May 19), the ministry of Communication said Monday in a statement.
“The decision to launch this channel was taken during the meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 10, under the presidency of the President of the Republic, with a view to launching a public thematic channel which will be devoted to distance education.”
Broadcasting its programs via the Algerian satellite Alcomsat-1, this new channel will make available to students a series of courses in all disciplines of the three education cycles, including exam classes, added the same source.
It is the third channel launched by the Minister of Communication Ammar Belhimer, after the sixth channel launched before Ramadan, the historic channel and the Maarifa channel, dedicated to students.
It is important to note that the historic channel is not yet launched on satellite, but its launch was announced on May 8, during a broadcast in the presence of Ahmed Rachedi. In addition, the new channels will be broadcast on Alcomsat 1 because Algeria has no longer a reserved space on the Nilesat or arabsat site.
