Algeria-US: Trade Minister, Ambassador discuss bilateral cooperation

ALGIERS-Minister of Trade Kamel Rezig, on Thursday, had phone talks with the Ambassador of the Unied States (US) John Desrocher on local, regional and international economic issues and the ways to boost bilateral cooperation, said the ministry in a communiqué.

Mr. Rezig insisted, during this telephone talks, on “the imperative to develop and consolidate economic relations between the two countries, by basing them on solid foundations”, stressing that the Algerian State continues its steps for the ‘improvement of the business climate, a will which was concretized by the abolition of the rule 49/51 with the exception of certain strategic sectors, indicated the same source.

He added that “Algeria is favorable to American investments and partnerships on the basis of a win-win relationship,” the statement pointed out.

Regarding the participation of the United States as guest of honor at the International Fair of Algiers (FIA), postponed due to the Covid-19 sanitary crisis, the minister indicated that the United States will be maintained as guest of honor for the next edition.

He called, on this occasion, the United States to participate in force in this economic rendez-vous which will constitute a real opportunity to establish efficient partnerships between the economic operators of the two countries, especially since Algeria has recently launched an operation of assessment of all agreements signed with the various partners, in collaboration with experts, university teachers, professionals and economic operators, according to the press release.
