Trial of ETRHB Haddad group scheduled for April 13

As part of the fight against corruption, the trial of Ali Haddad’s ETRHB group is scheduled for April 13, the daily Le Soir d’Algérie said, citing reliable sources familiar with the matter.

This trial will, according to the same source, involve a dozen of former senior officials including ex-ministers and ex-walis.

Thus, Ahmed Ouyahia, Abdelmalek Sellal, Abdelghani Zaâlane, Amar Ghoul, Mohamed El-Ghazi, Amara Benyounès, Saïd Barkat, Mahdjoub Bedda, Karim Djoudi, Amar Tou and Abdelkader Bouazghi will be cited.

The charges against them include, inter alia, “granting of benefits, squandering of public funds, misuse of the office they held, abuse of power, violation of procurement rules and money laundering,” stressed the same source.

In addition, Me Miloud Brahimi, one of the lawyers constituted in this case, reported by Le Soir d’Algérie, highlighted that the date of the trial “in this exceptional situation” is inappropriate. The lawyer believes that “we are in a period of confinement due to the progression of the coronavirus epidemic, to schedule such a trial which involves the presence of a large number of people, there will also be many witnesses, lawyers, the police, the room will be full. There is also a curfew at 3:00 p.m.”

As a reminder, the boss of the ETRHB group Ali Haddad was sentenced, on March 25 by the Court of Algiers, to four (4) years in prison, as part of the case of the hidden financing of the deposed president Abdelaziz Bouteflika campaign.
