Coronavirus: 409 confirmed cases, 26 deaths in Algeria

ALGIERS- A total of 409 people have been tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) in Algeria, including 26 deaths, the director general of Prevention at the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, and spokesman of the scientific committee in charge of monitoring the evolution of the coronavirus (Covid-19), Djamel Fourar said Friday.

Dr. Djamel Fourar, spokesman for the Scientific Committee, reported Friday, March 27, 42 new confirmed cases and 1 new death from the coronavirus in Algeria, bringing the number of the confirmed cases to 409 in total, including 26 deaths, while twenty-nine (29) patients are fully cured and have left the health facilities.

With respect to the death, the report indicated that the deceased is an immigrant from Borj Bou Arreredj who came from abroad.

Yesterday, the same source explained that the virus has so far been detected in 36 provinces, however, Blida remains the most affected.

Fourar recalled that “the level of alert remains at its highest level in order to halt the spread of the virus”.

For his part, the Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform, Abderrahmane Benbouzid, called on citizens to become aware of the situation to deal with this pandemic by respecting the prevention instructions.

The series of measures taken by President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to stem the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19), entered into effect on Sunday.

The series of measures, including isolation of confirmed and suspected cases, will run until April 4 and will be lifted or extended according to the evolution of the situation.

Besides, President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune has decreed, on Monday, a total lockdown, for a period of ten days, for the province of Blida, and another from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. for the province of Algiers. This measure; the partial lockdown, has been broadened, covering nine other provinces, namely;
Constantine, Oran, Sétif, Tipasa, Tizi-Ouzou, Batna, El Oued, Médéa and Boumerdes.

This instruction will come into effect on Saturday and concerns the time slot between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., said, Friday, the Prime Minister’s Office in a communiqué.

Noting that this measure came under the directives of the Head of State, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and in accordance with Executive Decree No. 20-70 of March 24, 2020, laying down additional preventive measures with a view to combating the spread of the coronavirus (COVID 19) in Algeria.
