ALGIERS- Algeria has not recorded any other coronavirus cases (Covid-19), apart from that contracted by the Italian national, said Thursday the Health Ministry’s manager for prevention Djamel Fourar.
Algeria has reported its first case of the Coronavirus recognised by the World Health Organisation as COVID-19, following the arrival of an Italian national in the North African country on 17 February 2020, tested positive for the disease.
The man has been put into quarantine, according to the state television, citing the health minister.
The Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform of Algeria made this known on Tuesday.
This is the second case registered in Africa following the first one reported earlier this month in Egypt.
Italy has seen the biggest outbreak of the disease in Europe, with more than 260 cases and seven deaths reported, most in the prosperous north of the country.
It is worth recalling that Algeria is one of 13 countries, which WHO has identified as a top priority for preparedness measures due to their direct links or a high volume of travel to China.
