ALGIERS- A concert of diwan music revisited with rock and blues influences was given Friday night in Algiers by the Algerian diwan diva Hasna El Becharia accompanied by her female band and a section of modern instruments.
Organized in the Ibn Zeydoun hall of the Office Ryad El Feth (Oref), this concert, performed in front of a large audience, was an opportunity for Hasna El Becharia to revisit her repertoire in a harmonious and rhythmic fusion oscillating between the diwan and the traditional music of the Saoura and influences of rock and blues.
For this new version the Bechar female troupe, a goumbri and sometimes a guitar, was accompanied by a bass player, a drummer and guitarists giving a world music rendering that keeps its authentic soul.
First woman to play goumbri in Algeria, Hasna El Becharia had released her first album “Jazair Djawhara” in 2002 which had a great success before participating in several projects like “Desert Blues” and creating her first troupe.
More recently, she initiated with Souad Asla the “Lemma Becharia” project aimed at enhancing the female musical heritage of the Saoura region (southwest of Algeria). An experience that resulted in the formation of a female troupe, the recording of an album in 2018 and tours in several European countries including France and Belgium.
Hasna El Becharia also announced the release of her new album, “Colors of the Desert”.
