ALGIERS- The presidential candidates of December 12 have committed Tuesday, on the 10th day of the electoral campaign, to take in charge the major concerns of the citizens, including the preservation of the national unity, the development of the South and the valorization of the ‘university.

El Moustakbel Movement candidate Abdelaziz Belaid said, at a meeting in Algiers, that the country “needs its elite, especially academics” to build real institutions, pledging to give university graduates a chance to take part in this venture.

He pledged, in front of the students, to “give the chance to the university graduates to take part in the construction of the institutions of the new Republic”, stressing that the project of the new Republic “can not be achieved without the participation of academics”.

The candidate to the supreme office is committed to opening up major projects, setting up listening and debate centers and encouraging dialogue by involving all national actors and skills at all levels in order to define the contours and foundations of the new Algeria.

For his part, the candidate Ali Benflis pledged, at a meeting in Ghardaia, to be the “rallying force” of the Algerians, while warning against “discords” that threaten the country.

Taliou El Houriyet’s party leader said that Algeria, facing “difficulties,” is threatened by “discords and dangers,” calling for “nationalism and unity, and to remain faithful to the oath of the shouhada “.

Benflis has promised to open “an expanded dialogue both with the entire political class and with those who oppose this election to regain the trust of the people who no longer have faith in these politicians “.

On another level, the candidate Azzedine Mihoubi has promised, in Bechar, to apply, if he is elected, a “special program” for the economic and social development of the southern regions, especially the province of Bechar.

The Acting Secretary General of the RND has notably committed to the implementation of a new scheme of “real” support for the rehabilitation of the agricultural plain of Abadla (5,400 ha) and the creation of new tourist poles through the encouragement of investors via a “simple” device instead of the current “very heavy” investment system, decried by investors and promoters because of the bureaucratization.

He has, in the same context, committed to implement a special program “Dream of the Sahara” for the economic and social development of the wilaya of Bechar and other southern regions of the country, a program that aims primarily at the exploitation of all the agricultural, tourism, mining and cultural resources of this part of the country.

“The development of these different economic and cultural segments will enable us to put an end to the dependence of our national economy on oil resources and to ensure a harmonious development of the resources of our country, which now needs a real economic policy, able to put it in tune with other nations of the world, “he said.

For his part, El Bina Movement candidate Abdelkader Bengrina pledged at a popular meeting in Eucalyptus (Algiers) to implement the principle of the equity.
