Acquittal of five young people accused of “undermining national unity”

ALGIERS- The tribunal of Bab El Oued (Court of Algiers) has acquitted on Wednesday five young people arrested during the popular marches for “undermining national unity.”

The judge pronounced, in the early hours of yesterday, a verdict acquitting five young people placed in pre-trial detention for “wearing emblems other than the national one” during popular marches.

 

The court of Sidi M’hamed pronounced, Tuesday, a verdict of one year in prison, including six months suspended with a fine of 30,000 Da, against twenty-one (21) youth and another verdict of six months in prison with a fine of 20,000 Da against six other young people for “undermining national unity”.

Another hearing was scheduled for next Monday to decide on the cases of 20 other young people prosecuted for the same charges, 9 of whom are placed under judicial supervision and 11 on remand.
