Arms, ammunition cache discovered in Bordj Badji Mokhtar


ALGIERS- An arms and ammunition cache was discovered Wednesday, in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, by a detachment of the People’s National Army, said a communiqué of the National Defense Ministry, underlining also the destruction, by other National Army’s units of a homemade bomb in Batna.

“As part of the fight against terrorism and through the exploitation of intelligence, and during a search operation conducted in Bordj Badji Mokhtar / 6th Military Region, a detachment of the National People’s Army discovered, on 16 October 2019, a cache of weapons and ammunition containing a (01) repeating rifle, (20) 82 mm mortar shell rockets, a quantity of ammunition amounting to (248) bullets, as well as (25) ) kilograms of ammonia used in the preparation of explosives and two (02) transceiver communication devices, specified the same source.

Another detachment of the ANP destroyed one (01) hand-made bomb, in the locality of Theniat El Hamra, commune of Larbaâ, province of Batna / 5th MR “, the same source added.

As part of the fight against organized crime, detachments of the ANP seized, in Tamanrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar, “(18) generators, (09) jackhammers and one (01) metal detector” , while elements of the National Gendarmerie discovered, in Tebessa, “a workshop of making small arms and seized four (04) shotguns, (366) cartridges, (24) kilograms of products falling within the manufacture and filling of cartridges “.

In addition, coastguards have foiled attempts of illegal emigration of “twenty (20) people aboard craft boats in Oran and Ain Temouchent,” noted the statement.
