ALGIERS- The 12th International Comic Strip Festival of Algiers (FIBDA) kicked off Tuesday at Riad El Feth Esplanade, in Algiers, with the participation of fifteen countries, including the United States of America, the edition’s guest of honor.
Cartoonists from fifteen countries are participating in the 12th International Comic Strip Festival of Algiers (FIBDA), scheduled from 1 to 5 October, with the United States as the guest of honor.
The 2019 edition of this annual event dedicated to the 9th art will be marked by various activities planned at the Riadh El Feth Esplanade in Algiers, with the participation of nearly 50 Algerian and 42 foreign comedians.
In addition to the United States of America, guest of honor, which will be represented by 15 designers, this edition is witnessing the participation of Belgium, Spain, Cuba and for the first time Poland.
Comic book lovers are invited to discover the American “Comics” and “Marvel Super Heroes”.
For this purpose, a competition of the “best project” of BD will be organized by the American stand which will award the “prize of excellence” to the first laureate, besides a trip, all expenses paid, to participate in the international festival of the comic – Comic-Con- in San Diego (USA), in July 2020.
In addition, the 12th edition of Fibda will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the comic book “M’Quidech”, the 70th anniversary of the creation of “SPIROU”, weekly periodical of Franco-Belgian comics and the 80th anniversary of the creation of the superhero “Batman”.
The program of this edition also includes the organization of exhibitions of comics and workshops of formation and initiation to the 9th art, in addition to other activities planned at the level of hospitals and schools for the benefit of the children.
Created in 2008, the International Cartoon Festival of Algiers (Fibda), organized by the Ministry of Culture, aims to promote the 9th art in Algeria, according to the organizers.
