Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty: Boukadoum co-chairs conference in New York


ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabri Boukadoum co-chaired, in New York, with his German counterpart Heiko Maas the 11th conference to promote and facilitate the entry into force the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, said Thursday a communiqué of his ministerial department.

The President-in-Office of the UN General Assembly, Tijjani Muhammed Bande, attended this conference.

In his speech, Mr. Boukadoum notably emphasized “the importance of this instrument which represents a model of efficiency and success of the multilateral negotiation in the fields of security and disarmament”, specified the same source.

He also said that “the universality of this instrument is reinforced by the fact that 184 Member States have signed this Treaty and 168 have ratified it”, and that it was “important to agree on capacity-building developing countries signatory to this international legal instrument, “the report added.

He also stressed Algeria’s “commitment” to the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East, the same text concluded.
