“Overwhelming majority” of Algerians want end of crisis, look forward to election

ALGIERS – Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaïd Salah, Deputy Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), on Wednesday in Adrar said that the “overwhelming majority” of the people want the political crisis to end and look forward to the holding of presidential election “within the established timeframes.”

 

The Army chief gave an address before the executives and personnel of the 6th Military Region in Bordj Badji Mokhtar (Adrar).

The “Algerian people, deeply aware of what is happening in their country and having the ability to analyze the causes and behind-the-scenes of national, regional and international events, regard the organization of the elections and voting as the ideal, efficient and wise solution for the country and the people,” he added.

Ahmed Gaid Salah also said that “the Army is constantly seeking to accomplish its duty towards the nation and the people, in line with its constitutional missions. In such a crucial period, the Army is committed to take all the measures to protect the security of citizens and ensure all the guarantees for a massive participation in the presidential election, in complete freedom and transparency.”

The “Algerian people and the Army, which stems from the people, share the same national objectives,” the Lt General said, voicing his conviction that the Algerian people, aware of the challenges facing Algeria, will endeavour so Algeria gets the most benefits from those challenges.”

For him, “it is obvious that the particularity of the Algerian people, different and unique, will represent the best support to meet all the challenges.

Throughout history, they showed they are able to take up challenges, because they simply always prioritize reason and rationality, concerning decisive questions.”
