ALGIERS- A convention was signed, Monday in Algiers, between the Ministries of Higher Education and Agriculture and a permanent sectoral commission set up for the coordination and development of scientific research in the agricultural sector.
The ceremony to install the commission and to sign the convention was chaired by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Tayeb Bouzid, and the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Cherif Omari, in the presence of the Minister of Training and Professional Education, Belkheir Dadamoussa.
After the installation of the permanent commission, Mr. Omari specified that it constituted “a new milestone in the development building of the agricultural world (forests and fishing)” and “the crowning of a long overall process to ensure effective participation in the management, monitoring and evaluation of scientific research activities in the sector with a view to identifying and removing gaps and defining the prospects for scientific research in the agricultural field “.
The Minister of Agriculture said that “the issues of agricultural development, development of production and consumption systems and reduction of dependence in several sectors require us to find the best ways to continue to raise production and productivity through technology and scientific innovation “.
For his part, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research has indicated that the establishment of this commission and the signing of the cooperation agreement “is a decisive turning point for consolidating close cooperation and raising sectoral coordination”.
On the other hand, the Minister of Vocational Education and Training said that his sector is keen to open up training in new professions in the field of agriculture “in line with the latest developments”, underlining the need for ” to apply the results of scientific research to concretize efficiency and achieve sustainable development, through increased coordination between different sectors “.
