14 gold miners arrested in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar

ALGIERS- Fourteen gold miners were arrested, on Monday, and equipment used in the illegal exploitation of gold seized by detachments of the National People’s Army (ANP) during separate operations in Tamanrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar, said, Tuesday, a communique from the Department of National Defense.

“As part of the fight against smuggling and organized crime, detachments of the National People’s Army arrested on July 15, 2019, during separate operations in Tamanrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th Military District), fourteen ( 14) gold miners and seized three (03) generators, three (03) jackhammers, two (02) metal detectors, a shotgun (01) and four (04) vehicles, ” said the same source.

In the same context, the Coast Guard “seized, in Mostaganem, 34.75 kilograms of treated Hashish, while a detachment of the ANP “defeated an attempt to smuggle 2,430 liters of fuel to Tindouf “.

In addition, and as part of the fight against illegal immigration, Border Guards “intercepted seven (07) illegal immigrants of different nationalities in Tlemcen,” added the same statement.
