KIA case: Several officials on remand in custody


Algeria –  17-plus people appeared before the public prosecutor’s office at Sidi M’hamed court over KIA case, reports Ennahar TV on Thursday.


Among those questioned on this case;  former Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, former Minister of Industry, Youcef Yousfi, former Minister of Parliamentary Relations, Mahdjoub Bedda and several other local government officials .

More specifically, eight people were remanded in El Harrach Prison and three others were placed under judicial supervision. To wit, KIA’s chief executive officer and another group executive were placed in pre-trial detention. Likewise, two executives at the Ministry of Industry met the same fate.

The officials are accused of money laundering, obtaining benefits and undue credits and squandering public money.

In addition, an international arrest warrant was issued against Abdeslam Bouchouareb, former Minister of Industry, while six people were released by the prosecution.
