ALGIERS- The investigating judge at the Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the detention of former Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia on remand at the prison of El Harrach, a source from the Supreme Court said.
Ahmed Ouyahia was heard by the investigating judge at the Supreme Court in cases relating to embezzlement of public money, abuse of office and granting of undue privileges.
Other officials are due to appear before the investigating judge at the Supreme Court.
In accordance with Article 573 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the public prosecution at the Court of Algiers had submitted, to the prosecutor general at the Supreme Court, the preliminary investigation file conducted by National Gendarmerie’s Criminal Investigation Department of Algiers for criminal acts against Zaalane Abdelghani, Tou Amar, Talai Boudjemaa, Ghoul Amar, Benyounes Amara, Bouazgui Abdelkader, Djoudi Karim, Bouchouareb Abdesslam, Zoukh abdelkader, Khanfar Mohamed Djamel, Sellal Abdelmalek and Ouyahia Ahmed, the public prosecution at the court of Algiers said.
“Due to their positions when the crimes were committed, the above-mentioned benefit from the jurisdictional privilege according to the law,” the source said.
