Over 60,000 shopkeepers on duty on Eid ul-Fitr

ALGIERS- A total of 60,362 shopkeepers will be on duty on Eid ul-Fitr, announced, Thursday, a communiqué of the Trade Ministry.

Pursuant to the provisions of Article 8 of Law 13-06 amending and supplementing Law 04-08 on the conditions of exercise of commercial activities, the services of the Ministry of Commerce have drawn up a merchant permanence program during the Eid El Fitr, said the same source.

Permanence will concern 4,992 bakers, 33,475 traders activating in general food, fruit and vegetables, 11,526 in various activities and 445 production units (141 dairies, 270 mills and 34 mineral water production units).

The number of requisitioned merchants was, thus, reinforced this year and revised upwards by around 19%, compared to 2018.

As a reminder, the application of the permanence of traders during the national and religious legal holidays began in 2012 following the amendment of the law 04-08 setting the conditions for the exercise of commercial activities, by the introduction of a provision obliging traders to ensure permanence during these festivals.

This law provides for sanctions against recalcitrants; the closure of commercial premises for a period of one (1) month with a fine ranging from 30,000 to 200,000 DA against offenders.
