Algeria deeply worried over situation in Libya, says Bensalah

ALGIERS- Head of the State Abdelkader Bensalah voiced, Thursday in Algiers, to the president of the Presidential Council of the National Unity Government of Libya (GNA) Fayez al Sarraj, “Algeria’s deep concern over the developments of the situation in Libya.”

During the meeting granted to Mr. El Serradj, Mr. Bensalah reported “Algeria’s deep concern  over the latest developments in neighboring Libya because of clashes there, “said a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.

Deploring “the continuation of clashes despite the various urgent calls for the cessation of hostilities and the resumption of dialogue as an unavoidable political solution to the Libyan crisis”, the Head of State recalled that “the efforts of the Algeria, at the international level, are constantly aiming to rapidly bring to an end the hostilities and the resumption of the political process with the participation of all the Libyan national forces “.

He said, in this regard, that “the persistence of the current situation would, likely, deepen further divisions, aggravate internal political tensions and fuel or even increase foreign interference.”

In addition to analyzing and assessing the situation in Libya, “the two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways and means of strengthening them “.

El Sarradj made a working and friendly visit to Algeria, on Thursday, as part of the “tradition of dialogue between the two countries”.
