Cereals, milk: Ending public subsidy transfer to unwarranted beneficiaries


ALGIERS- The government approved, in its meeting Wednesday, several measures aimed at putting an end to the transfer of public subsidies of milk and wheat to unwarranted beneficiaries, said a communiqué” of the Prime Minister’s Office.

This orientation comes within the framework of “the continuation of the examination of a series of the measures to be taken in order to rationalize the receipts and preserve the foreign exchange reserves”, said the communique.

A meeting was devoted to the import of cereals and milk, especially as these two sectors alone represent more than 50% of the total food bill of our country, the statement said.

The Minister of Finance presented at the meeting a detailed presentation on this subject, highlighting, in particular the adopted import model and the financial support granted by the State.

According to the same source, the Government maintained during the examination of these measures, to “preserve the purchasing power of the citizen”.
